The Synchrotron Building
The Synchrotron Building houses offices, labs, and shop space for the Division of Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy. The building was originally a giant clean room built for the decade-long (1936–1946) job of grinding and polishing the mirror for the 200-inch Hale Telescope at Palomar Observatory. The structure was reconfigured in 1969 to house the Synchrotron for Nuclear Physics, a one-billion-volt electron accelerator, which was removed in 1970.
