Cahill Center
The Cahill Center boasts 100000 square feet of offices, laboratories, and common areas that allow some 300 of Caltech's top-ranked astronomy and astrophysics faculty and graduate students to work together in a building dedicated to their needs. The facility also includes the 150-seat Hameetman Auditorium and an astrophysics library. In recognition of Cahill's energy-efficient design, it was awarded the first LEED Gold certification on campus. Cahill's street address, 1216, is a unique number - it represents the wavelength of ultraviolet light emitted by hydrogen, the most common element in the universe. Construction was made possible by a lead gift from Charles Cahill in honor of his late wife, Aníko Dér Cahill. Support was also provided by trustee and alumnus Fred Hameetman and his wife, Joyce; alumnus Michael Scott; and other private individuals and foundations.
